• 16 August 2016 - eBay the online marketplace has partnered with Laithwaite's Wine in the UK to expand its drinks portfolio. The partnership will provide eBay a selection of red, white, rose and sparkling wines as well as mixed cases. ebay started selling wine in the UK in June of this year through its regular listings format. The Laithwaite's offer is part of the eBay's Shops iniative and the home-delivery wine service has its own branding within the ebay framework.

    David Thatcher, CEO of Laithwaite's Wine said "We're excited to be partnering with eBay to reach a new generation of wine drinkers and look forward to introducing eBay's customers to great-value wines handcrafted in quantities too small for the supermarkets and big retailers,".

    Online retailers are increasingly targeting the food and drink category. Earlier this year, eBay linked up with mobile wine app Drync in the US to expand its online wine platform. Amazon also sells alcohol online in the US and last year launched a one-hour alcohol delivery service in Seattle.

  • 6 August 2016 - A former University student of Minnesota-Duluth claims to have reached one of the highest levels in the game "Pokemon Go". Now his game account is being sought after to buy. He sold it on eBay but the sale has been blocked by eBay siting the sale is in violation of the game owners terms of use.

    WCCO (CBS) in Minneapolis reports that the former student, Adrian Allen, spent about 19 days to hit level 30 in the popular mobile game. He says he walked nearly nine miles a day playing the game and lost 12 pounds in weight. He then tried to sell his account on eBay on the back of a suggestion, with a buy it now price of $15,000.

    “I got an email saying, ‘Hey, somebody straight up bought your account,’ so that was very exciting,” said Allen. “The next day I guess, I tried to pull the money from eBay and that’s when I got the notification from them that they were blocking the transaction.”

    The reason for blocking the sale is that selling the Pokemon Go Account is in violation of the owner, Niantic, terms of use. eBay has recently changed its policies to avoid violating other company's terms and conditions..

    Allen says he hopes to find another way to contact the buyer to sell his account.

  • 2 August 2016 - With the launch of Pokémon Go, collectors of vintage Pokémon items have seen a spike in demand for various items including cards, apparel and toys.

    eBay has reported that since the launch of Pokémon Go, there have been over 444,000 views of Pokémon merchandise on the site, making it the number one trending item on July 18. Pokémon Go launched in the U.S. on July 6. According to the eBay, a Pokémon-related item sells every 12 seconds around the world, a 57% selling increase from the previous average selling rate.

    The top-selling Pokémon items on eBay include Ash Ketchum's (the main character of Pokémon) baseball cap, game cards and t-shirts , among other items. Another item that is trending on eBay and available for pre-order is the Nintendo Pokémon Go Plus bracelet .

  • 20 April 2016 - Ten years after its launch, Microsoft has said it is to stop making the Xbox 360 games console. The remaining Xbox 360 consoles will still be sold as well as the platform being supported for existing users.

    Last year Microsoft enabled Xbox 360 games to work on its successor, the Xbox One.

    The news of the Xbox 360 being discontinued came via blog post by Phil Spencer the boss of Xbox at Microsoft. In the post he also said "I am incredibly proud of all of the work and dedication that went into development of the Xbox 360 hardware, services and games portfolio over the last decade. And I'm grateful to the fans for their continued passion and support,". He also went on to say "While we've had an amazing run, the realities of manufacturing a product over a decade old are starting to creep up on us."

    Gamers had completed more than 78 billion hours of play on the devices according to the blog post.
